We've been teaching English for over 100 years!

WHO WE ARE

The English Center of Youngstown is a non-profit, charitable organization that serves adults who are English learners through family engagement, adult literacy, and workforce literacy classes. After a long tradition of providing face-to-face instruction, we’ve met the current educational challenge by successfully transitioning to remote learning.

Our experienced and dedicated teachers focus on speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills at several levels of instruction.

We are an inclusive, multicultural, and diverse organization that welcomes students of all races, cultures, religions, and ethnicities.

OUR HISTORY

The English Center has its roots in the International Institute of Youngstown which was established in 1918 and offered programs that helped immigrants adjust to life in the United States.

In 1986, The International Institute became a foundation and The English Center was created to carry on the mission of offering free English Language classes in a warm and caring atmosphere.

We owe our undying gratitude to our founders, Leslie Kiske and Roberta Grinstein.
